Mise Tableware

Thoughtfully made for the rituals of daily life.

Mise Tableware is a refined collection of modern, wheel-thrown ceramics designed for everyday use. Balancing simplicity with warmth, each piece is created to serve not just as a vessel, but as an invitation—to slow down, connect, and enjoy the quiet moments that make up a life.

Formerly known as Cynical Ceramics, the brand has evolved to reflect a more intentional and design-focused direction. While the name has changed, the commitment to craft and quality remains at the core. You may still find “Cynical Ceramics” stamped on the base of some pieces, a quiet nod to the journey that brought this work to where it is now.

Behind Mise is Scott Pierce, a queer ceramic artist based in Vancouver, BC. After a 15-year career in corporate leadership, Scott left the boardroom to return to the studio full-time. What began as a pandemic-era reconnection to making by hand has grown into a full-time practice rooted in form, function, and material honesty.

Scott is also the co-founder of The Clay Warehouse, a community ceramic studio and supply business in Port Coquitlam, BC. Equal parts teacher, maker, and small business owner, he spends his time developing new forms for Mise, teaching workshops, and building community through clay.

Each Mise piece is made from richly toned stoneware and finished with simple, considered glazes—designed to age beautifully and feel at home in any setting. The work is quiet, modern, and meant to last.
